One trunk.
Every version
in motion.

A leaves-led identity for source control: shared continuity at the core, temporary expression at the edge.

The premise

Source control is not a filing cabinet. It is a living record of decisions.

Vex makes the stable thing feel solid and every meaningful change feel visible, reversible, and ready to rejoin the whole. The trunk is the shared source of truth. A leaf is a temporary, inspectable change. The cut-through node is the version from which work fans out and to which worthwhile work returns.

“A branch is a temporary question. The trunk is the answer we agree to keep improving.”

  1. 01

    Begin at trunk

Start from the version everyone trusts — not a fossilized branch nobody can place.

  2. 02

    Grow a leaf

Give a change a visible home while it is being made, checked, and challenged.

  3. 03

    Reconcile early

Return worthwhile work continuously, so divergence stays small and comprehensible.

  4. 04

    Advance together

The trunk moves forward. History remains a coherent story rather than a thicket.

01 / The mark

Three layers.
One cut-through node.

Exactly three broad, veinless leaves fan from one origin. Ink is the front leaf, paper the middle, foil the rear. The circular node is a hole, not a fourth object.

01

Node

A circular absence. The shared version shows through every layer, so the origin holds without becoming a badge.

02

Leaf stack

Exactly three veinless blades fan from one lower-left origin. Ink leads; paper sits in the middle; foil is rear and lower-right.

03

Foil leaf

The change that matters right now: surfaced, reviewed, and brought home. Stable enough to read as silver, alive enough to reward attention.

02 / Downloads

Do not redraw them.

03 / Colour

High visibility, not high noise.

High vis dominates the first impression. Paper and ink carry longer reading so the yellow keeps its impact. Foil is a material, not a palette of extra brand colours.

Public energy

High vis

The field of attention. Openings, decisive actions, and the first impression.

Source of truth

Ink

The trunk, the leading leaf, the wordmark, and anything that must stay legible.

Room to inspect

Paper

The calm middle layer and the surface for long reading.

Active change

Foil

A newly surfaced diff, review, or release. Silver at rest; one catchlight, never a rainbow field.

05 / Usage

Keep the geometry honest.

Do

  1. 01Use the canonical mark, wordmark, or horizontal lockup. Do not redraw the leaves.
  2. 02Keep the circular node as a hole. The current background must show through.
  3. 03Give the mark at least one node-diameter of clear space, and half a mark-width between mark and wordmark.
  4. 04Pair ink on high vis, paper on ink, and ink on paper. Those are the primary two-colour systems.
  5. 05Use foil for an active, inspectable change — a review, a newly surfaced diff, a release.

Do not

  1. 01Do not add veins, separator strokes, extra petals, or a fourth leaf.
  2. 02Do not fill the node, turn it into a coloured badge, or let antialiasing open a gap between blades.
  3. 03Do not stretch, outline, rotate, or recolour individual leaves.
  4. 04Do not set white body text on yellow, or yellow compact icons on paper or white.
  5. 05Do not use foil as a page-wide rainbow, a body-text fill, or a hover on every control.
